Friday: Discovering Sports
On Friday, over 250 primary school students visited the event. For many children, this was their first introduction to hockey, football, and skill training.
Through interactive challenges and games, children could playfully and easily discover how much fun sports and exercise can be. This is precisely where we see a significant opportunity: to get children excited about sports and then help them take the step towards local sports offerings and training sessions in their neighbourhood.
Weekend: More than just a tournament
Over the weekend, hockey and football tournaments were scheduled. But these were no ordinary tournaments.
In addition to the 3v3 matches, teams could also earn points through various challenges and battles. This meant it wasn't just about the matches themselves, but also about technique, creativity, and teamwork.
This combination created a completely different dynamic than a traditional tournament. Teams remained active all day, players had many ball contacts, and there was always something going on. Between matches, teams could immediately move on to the next challenge to earn extra points for the standings.
With over 400 participating children, we look back on a successful edition of the NextGen Games. A weekend where sports, play, and development came together, and where we once again saw how powerful an accessible introduction to sports can be.
